These compilations ONLY serve as a guide for parents and students to decide which school is the most suitable to develop the best out of a student. Besides only considering the PSLE cut-off results, are there any other factors that one should consider?
What's your personal belief about 'every school is a good school'? If every school was a good school, do we always need to place our child in what is considered a 'top school'? What are the characteristics of a 'good' school?
So besides results, perhaps the other factors you may want to consider of the 'potential' of a school is to çheck out their:
(1) Customised Programmes (e.g applies to both academic and non-academic)
Some schools may have developed their own niche areas and hence may offer greater opportunities for your child to excel in that particular area as there will be more funds available to develop the school programmes.
(2) Professional Standards of Teachers
Nothing beats a school with teachers who are committed to their calling and willing to go the extra miles to reach out to your child. Teachers who are competent also adopt a student-centric approach in their teaching styles and emphasise on upholding great moral values in education.
(3) School Directions in Promoting Lifelong Learning & Innovation
Make a trip down to the school and try to speak to one of the students/ teachers that you bump into, if possible. A good school will produce students who are proud of their school... As the receiving end, they are the most authentic channel to tell you about their fruitful experiences!
(4) Partnerships Between School & Community
A school that is serious of developing the quality of their students will put emphasis on both their academic and non-academic strengths. This is definitely a good holistic approach towards developing the students to be key contributors to their community.
